Attachment Compression in Notes 6.x Disappears After Editing

Technote Number: 1107340

Problem:
This issue was reported to Lotus software Quality Engineering and has been
addressed in Notes/Domino 6.0.2. (Note that for all regions except Japan, the
first release of Notes/Domino 6.0.2 is 6.0.2 CF1. This release includes all of
the Notes/Domino 6.0.2 fixes).

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 6.0.2 MR fix list (available at
http://www.lotus.com/ldd):

Editor
SPR# DVAU5K4QQ7 - Fixed a problem where compression information was lost after
editing a saved attachment.

The issue was initially reported when using LZ1 compression in a Notes/Domino
6.x database with ODS 43, but the problem is not specific to the compression
type. HUFFMAN compression, as well as LZ1 compression, is also lost after
opening, editing, and saving a document with a compressed attachment.

Steps to reproduce using Notes 6.x client:

Create a new database (ODS 43) using the standard mail template.
Open the database and create a new memo.
With cursor in Body field, select File, Attach.
Make sure the Compress option is checked and attach a text file.
Save the new memo as draft.
Check the properties of the document and note the Compression type. If the new
Notes/Domino 6 database Advanced Properties option "Use LZ1 compression for
attachments" is enabled, the Compression Type showing in $FILE will be "LZ1
2". If the option is not selected, the Compression Type for $FILE will be
"HUFFMAN 1".
Reopen the same document in edit mode.
Select the attachment, open the attachment properties, and select Edit.
Modify and save the attached text file.
Close and save the document. Check the document properties again; you will see
that the Compression Type for $FILE is now NONE.
